JOHANNESBURG - The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) is expected to elect new leaders on Tuesday as its 15th National Congress continues in Kempton Park.
The federation reconvened on Monday despite a pending legal challenge, following the collapse of its previous congress amid leadership disputes and disagreements over credentials.
However, the reconvened congress has already been marked by fresh tensions.
African National Congress (ANC) chairperson Gwede Mantashe walked out without delivering his message of support after refusing to address delegates before the South African Communist Party (SACP).
The incident has added to tensions within the tripartite alliance, which comprises Cosatu, the ANC and the SACP.
