ITSOSENG - For residents of Itsoseng, Verdwaal and neighbouring areas, this week’s electricity outage was not an isolated incident.
It’s part of an ongoing pattern of power cuts, which residents blame on ageing and poorly maintained infrastructure.
Electricity has been restored in Itsoseng and Verdwaal following a two-day outage caused by Tuesday’s substation fire.
But residents are questioning how long the supply will last, with concerns that the underlying infrastructure problems remain unresolved.
For small businesses, every hour without electricity means lost income.
Residents fear the damaged infrastructure will not be permanently replaced.
Eskom, however, maintains that the existing substation has sufficient capacity to supply all households and businesses connected to the local grid.
For now, residents are left waiting and hoping the lights stay on.
They believe lasting relief will only come when the ageing substation infrastructure is replaced.
