CAPE TOWN - The SAPS has appointed Lieutenant General Sizakhele William Dyantyi as the new Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, effective 1 August 2026.
Dyantyi brings 34 years of policing experience to the role, having served in a range of operational and leadership positions in both the Eastern and Western Cape. His experience spans station, district and provincial policing.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said the appointment comes at a critical time with the province requiring strong strategic leadership to tackle its complex crime challenges, rebuild public confidence and advance the SAPS Reset Agenda.
Speaking after his appointment, Dyantyi said strengthening the operational readiness of police officers and expanding the use of technology would be key priorities in tackling crime.
He also expressed confidence in the province’s police officers, saying he believes they have the competence and commitment to ensure the people of the Western Cape are safe and feel safe.
