PRETORIA - Member of Parliament and National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams says he will drop “big bombs” when he eventually testifies before the Madlanga Commission.
Adams made a brief appearance before the Commission on Tuesday after being called to testify, but his evidence was postponed to 19 August.
In a statement on Tuesday morning, the Commission said evidence leaders had only received Adams’ affidavit and related annexures on Monday night and could seek a postponement.
Adams is facing allegations of leaking classified Crime Intelligence documents. His evidence is also expected to focus on how he came into possession of the information.
A senior investigator at the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) previously testified that investigators at the unit had been denied access to the Section 27 referral submitted by Adams.
Speaking to eNCA outside the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College, Adams denied that he had been subpoenaed to appear before the Commission.
“It’s a lie. I was never subpoenaed,” Adams said.
“I emailed the Commission and said, ‘My name is being kicked around like a football for three months. I demand my opportunity to speak.’”
Adams said he was disappointed to learn that his testimony had been postponed.
“It’s disappointing. I’ve come halfway across the country. I went to bed early and I put on a suit for this, and now I’m told I’m not going to testify.”
He also hinted at what he plans to reveal when he eventually takes the stand.
“You can expect bombs… big ones. But let’s do the right thing and save those for the Commission,” he said.
Adams said he regretted reporting cases against Crime Intelligence officials to IDAC, given the evidence that has emerged at the Madlanga Commission.
“I am so disappointed at what is happening inside IDAC. I believe that the cases I laid were used to settle scores internally.”
