JOHANNESBURG - The Eastern and Western Cape are still waiting for the army to touch down.
But Gauteng already has boots on the ground.
The province's top cop, Tommy Mthombeni, says the soldiers have already racked up some wins in fighting crime.

"The 18th of February got the deployment in the province," said Mthombeni.
"We have since started working with them. There are considerable successes."
In the period from October to December 2025, murder was down nearly 12 percent, rape decreased by 7 percent, sexual assault dropped 12.8 percent and robbery with aggravating circumstances contracted 6.3 percent.
But attempted murders and kidnappings increased.
Firearms remain the weapon of choice across multiple categories.
The Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and Gun Free SA have now signed an MOU meant to limit the accessibility of these weapons.
Ten police officers were killed in the reporting period, four of them while on duty.
