Julius Mkhwanazi to appear in court after weekend arrest

JOHANNESBURG - Suspended deputy Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department chief Julius Mkhwanazi is expected to appear before the Boksburg magistrate's court on Monday.

He was arrested by the SAPS' Madlanga Commission Task Team on Saturday.

Mkhwanazi is facing charges of corruption, fraud and defeating the ends of justice.

The arrest stems from ongoing investigations and incriminating testimony at the Madlanga Commission.

Mkhwanazi has been on precautionary suspension since November 2025, following his initial testimony at the commission.
