PRETORIA - The Madlanga Commission will scrutinise a medical certificate submitted by Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) head Advocate Andrea Johnson after she failed to appear before the inquiry on Monday.
Johnson was scheduled to testify before the Commission but did not appear, citing ill health.
Her legal representative, Advocate Langa Bodlani SC, told the Commission that Johnson had been rushed to hospital on Monday morning.
"She had some serious health-related issues that I am not able to disclose in public," Bodlani said.
A medical certificate submitted to the Commission states that Johnson has been booked off sick from 13 to 15 July 2026.
Her testimony has been postponed to a date yet to be determined.
Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga criticised the certificate, saying it contained no information about Johnson’s medical condition.
"I noticed that this is one of those medical certificates, the nature of which I have previously said is useless in the sense that they give no information whatsoever. It is one of those useless so-called medical certificates," Madlanga said.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that the medical certificate will be scrutinised.
Last week, the Commission heard claims that Johnson allegedly interfered in the handling of an assault investigation involving suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan.
