PRETORIA - The corruption trial of former Defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been postponed to 16 September.
Mapisa-Nqakula was expected to return to the witness stand on Thursday after proceedings were cut short on Wednesday when she fell ill. Her legal team told the court she was suffering from exhaustion following lengthy proceedings.
However, the former minister was absent from court on Thursday.
Her lawyer, Siyabulela Mapoma, submitted a medical certificate and requested a postponement, saying Mapisa-Nqakula was unable to attend due to a medical condition.
The court granted the postponement and extended her bail. A warrant of arrest was also authorised but held over until 16 September.
Mapisa-Nqakula faces allegations that she solicited bribes from defence contractor Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu. She has pleaded not guilty and denies receiving any money from the businesswoman.
During her testimony, she told the court that renovations were carried out at her home to improve security after she received what she described as multiple threats to her life.
