Mitchells Plain residents say gang violence worsening

CAPE TOWN - As the nation awaits the release of the fourth quarter crime stats, we take a look at how crime continues to affect most, if not all, parts of the country.

Western Cape premier Alan Winde, during an oversight visit to Mitchells Plain, called for more policing powers to help fight crime.

Mitchells Plain is one of the 17 areas in the Western Cape where the SANDF has been deployed to assist the police in stabilising the area.

Residents have mixed feelings about the army's presence.

Since the weekend, four mass shootings have occurred in the Western Cape, with more than 10 people killed to date.
