More arrests in alleged R10m Limpopo insurance scam

POLOKWANE – Five people have been arrested in connection with the R10-million insurance murder, fraud and money laundering case involving former police officer Rachel Kutumela and her family.

Police swooped in on four suspects who are believed to be relatives of Kutumela on Tuesday morning during a coordinated operation in Polokwane. 

A fifth person was arrested on Monday in Sebokeng. Two more arrests are expected.

Four other suspects, namely Rachel Kutumela (43), her sister Anna Shokane (47), her brother LeshwengJohannes Shokane (53) and daughter Florah Shokane (23), remain in custody following their bail denial and ongoing court proceedings. 

The case has been transferred to the Polokwane High Court. 

The crimes reportedly spanned from 2000 to 2024, when the insured individuals died in various circumstances.
