Nigeria assures citizens of safety in South Africa amid tensions

JOHANNESBURG - Nigeria has responded to concerns about the safety of its citizens in South Africa.

This follows protests and tensions linked to undocumented migrants and community safety.

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Alexander Temitope Ajayi, said the position of the Federal Government is that relations between Nigeria and South Africa remain largely cordial.

He further maintained that, to date, no Nigerian has been killed or violated in any way during the recent wave of demonstrations.

"I want to assure the Nigerian public, as well as parents who have children schooling in South Africa, that their children are safe and they are attending their lectures as they should," Ajayi said.
