'No bail': Westbury families face accused teen shooters in court

JOHANNESBURG - No bail. That’s the call of families of victims of last month’s deadly mass shooting in Westbury.

They say they’re still struggling to come to terms with their loss.

19-year-old Reece Oliphant and 37-year-old Tarryn Stewart were killed in the attack, which left three others wounded, including a 15-month-old child.

The families are once again coming face to face with the two teenage suspects, who are now applying for bail.

Stewart was shot multiple times while carrying her 15-month-old child.

One of the bullets hit the child in the leg.

"If you look at the shots that Tarryn endured, you could see that she was protecting her baby because it was only one bullet that hit my niece," said Alicia Adonis, Stewart's sister.

"It's sad because how do you start shooting a mother that's carrying a baby? And for me, the brutalness of that is something I cannot imagine someone to be able to do something like that?”

Now, both families are united in their call for no bail.

The accused were already out on bail for a similar mass shooting last October.

"We just want the right thing to be done. Justice must prevail," said Adonis.

" Innocent people are being killed, and others are getting away with it. My sister was not a gangster. Reece was not a gangster. They were simply living their lives."

As the legal process unfolds, families say their fight is far from over.

They remain determined to oppose bail and to see justice served.

The bail application is now expected to be heard on 14 April.
