GQEBERHA - The Democratic Alliance and Freedom Front Plus won’t be supporting a no-confidence motion against the Nelson Mandela Bay mayor, for now.
Instead, the parties are eyeing success at the municipal elections.
Success is an outright majority in a metro where the DA and the ANC ended the 2021 local government polls with equal shares of the vote.
That outcome continues to plague the Metro.
The mayoral chains have changed hands on numerous occasions, as politicians in the multi-coalition government fight for power.
The DA is snubbing GOOD’s no confidence motion against mayor Babalwa Lobishe.
The GOOD Party has hit back, accusing the DA of failing to address the metro's leadership crisis.
Lobishe has been in office since October 2024.
Since then, she has faced several allegations, including the unlawful leasing of a R25-million city-owned transformer to a private company.
However, the ANC Regional Chairperson has slammed the motion as petty politics.
With the municipal elections taking place in three months, the political battle lines have been drawn.
Parties will give their all in the campaign, hoping to secure an outright majority in the metro.
