Police launch high-level probe into Feroz Khan shooting

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police have launched a high-level investigation into the shooting of Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan in Houghton.

Khan was rushed to hospital in critical condition after he was shot on Third Avenue in Houghton on Sunday night.

eNCA understands Khan was wounded in the lower body when he was ambushed by unknown assailants travelling in a Mercedes-Benz.

In a statement, the SAPS said an investigating team comprising Gauteng Hawks, Gauteng Crime Intelligence and the Political Killings Task Team has been assembled to probe the attempted assassination.

Khan was expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission on 1 July.

Police said that while there is public speculation about the timing of the attack, “it is premature to speculate on any possible motive or conclude that the incident is linked to his anticipated appearance before the Commission.”

“Detectives will follow the evidence wherever it leads,” the statement read.
