JOHANNESBURG - A police manhunt is under way following the murder of United Democratic Movement councillor Luxolo Namette in Gqeberha.
Namette was shot and killed in Motherwell on Saturday.
The UDM has expressed shock over his killing, which comes as the party reflects on its strong showing in the local government elections.
Party Secretary-General Bulelani Bobotyane believes the murder may have been politically motivated.
The party says it will refer the matter to the Political Killings Task Team and has called on police to conduct a thorough investigation.
Namette began his political career in the UDM’s Youth Vanguard before becoming a public representative and chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee.
