JOHANNESBURG - Police plan to install GBV Victim Friendly Rooms at OR Tambo International Airport.
There are also plans to install them at almost 80 police stations that still do not have the facility.
Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo said officers are also being trained to be more empathetic when dealing with victims.
Over 3,000 have already received proactive or reactive GBVF training, she said.
“We've trained our members also to be able to deal with the GBVF issue, because as you know police are trained to deal with criminals and with law. We have to really train them to be able to be empathetic.
“When a person, especially women and children come to lay cases, they'll able to deal with them.
“So for proactive training, we've been able to train 1,411 police officers and then reactive training, 1,684. We've also dealt with our victim-friendly rooms which has been established in 1079 police stations, and a total of 73 satellites.
“And also in Cape Town International Airport, and also we are going to include OR Tambo Airport, and a total of 89 stations are without the VFR, and we're working on them that at least they must have a satellite. So in all our police stations, there must be at least something to do with the GBVF,” Boshielo said.
