JOHANNESBURG - Slain Emfuleni municipal worker Martha Mani had previously told her family that she feared for her life.
She was gunned down near a police station in Vanderbijlpark last month.
Mani worked in the finance department and had allegedly uncovered corruption linked to tenders.
"She opened a case that was taken to the Hawks, and the other one was she opened a case for intimidation, and I think they are linked because of, there was a certain point whereby she told a friend that there's a person who's paying in municipality with fake checks, and then the money doesn't reflect into their accounts," said her brother Lerato Rantsofu.
"So that's how far I know about this, but I'm sure there are investigating officers that are busy with it, trying to find out if this way, it's not a speculation in a way, it's there because now she's no longer with us."
He said she expressed fear for her life.
"The last time I spoke to her, she told me that she wants to add four more cameras at home, where she stays. Then I asked, like, okay, why four more cameras? She says, I'm scared, but she didn't tell me she's scared of what."
