Soldiers deploy to illegal mining hotspots

JOHANNESBURG - The army has made its presence felt in the east of Gauteng.

Illegal mining and associated crime are big headaches in communities like Cloverdene in Benoni.

Soldiers have been deployed to various communities to help police fight gang violence and illegal mining.

The military deployment will last a year and cover five of the nine provinces.
