JOHANNESBURG - A suspect has handed himself over to police following a shooting in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, that killed two ANC Youth League members and wounded five others.
The victims, aged 21 and 23, were returning from a memorial service for a political party member at Mogobeng Primary School when the shooting occurred.
Five people, including teenagers, were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
The case has been handed over to the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team for further investigation.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi condemned the shooting, describing it as a “senseless killing”.
Lesufi said the group had been singing in the street after attending the memorial service when a car approached and someone opened fire.
According to the premier, the suspect allegedly abandoned his car, got into a taxi and handed himself over to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
