RANDBURG - Tensions flared at a voting station in Randburg, Johannesburg, between DA mayoral candidate Helen Zille and agents representing other political parties.
The disagreement centred on the sealing of ballot boxes, with Zille saying she intervened after concerns were raised about the process.
Zille said she had the necessary accreditation to be inside the voting station and insisted her intention was simply to ensure that officials sealed the ballot boxes correctly.
“There was no issue, we just wanted the boxes to be sealed properly,” she said.
However, an African Transformation Movement (ATM) party agent who spoke to eNCA disputed Zille’s intervention.
The agent argued that Zille had no reason to get involved in the process, saying it was the responsibility of the party agents to oversee the sealing of the ballot boxes.
