'We can't lose our children' | Westbury families demand action on gang violence

JOHANNESBURG - Families of young victims killed in Westbury's bloody weekend say there’s simply no political will to tackle gang violence in their community.

They’re demanding urgent intervention as the bloodshed escalates.

Four young men, the youngest just 15, were shot and killed, while a fifth survived the attack.

Community activist Jefferson Johnson lost his nephew, 20-year-old Luthando Stuurman.

Shana Lyners lost her 22-year-old son, Caston, in the shooting.

She says he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Community leaders warn that high-calibre weapons are playing a growing role in the violence.

For Westbury residents, gunfire has become a grim, familiar backdrop. 

The community insists it has had enough of escalating gang violence and warns that without urgent action, more families will mourn loved ones.
