Several provinces brace for heavy rain

JOHANNESBURG - A new week and another round of bad weather conditions.

Forecasters warn of isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers sweeping across the central interior, most of the east, and parts of the south coast.

Some of these conditions could prove dangerous for communities.

The big concern is the risk of severe thunderstorms, with the potential for heavy downpours
and localised flooding.

Tokelo Chiloane from the South African Weather Service warned that Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West are expecting heavy rainfall on Tuesday.

"From Thursday onwards, rainfall will increase as we head into the weekend," Chiloane said.

She urged the public to take weather warnings seriously.

"These provinces typically receive rain at this time of year, and with La Niña conditions, we can expect even more rainfall."
