JOHANNESBURG - After being stranded at OR Tambo International Airport for about a day,
Palestinian refugees have finally been allowed into the country.
The group of 153 travellers were denied entry after failing immigration verification.
But 130 of them have now been granted entry and are under the care of Gift of the Givers.
A total of 23 others had already transferred from the airport to other destinations.
The chartered Global Airways flight landed just after 8am from Kenya.
The Border Management Authority says the refugees did not indicate their duration of stay in South Africa or the address of their accommodation.
Home Affairs has received assurance from Gift of the Givers that it will accommodate them.
One of the asylum seekers who spoke to eNCA has detailed the struggles they faced back home.
