16-year-old arrested for attack on MPs

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape serious and violent crime detectives have arrested a second suspect in connection with the attack on three MPs in Cape Town.

The 16-year-old was nabbed in Browns Farm this morning.

It follows the arrest of an 18-year-old on Tuesday.

He is currently under police guard in hospital after he was shot during the attack.

Police Committee chair, Ian Cameron, and MPs, Lisa-Maré Schickerling and Nicholas Gotsell were attacked.

They had just left the SAPS training college when men armed with bricks surrounded their vehicle.

The National Police Commissioner has deployed top investigators to probe the incident.

The suspects face attempted murder and attempted hijacking charges.

Police believe three people were involved and expect to arrest a third suspect soon.
