CARLETONVILLE - Police have launched a manhunt for eight armed suspects after a deadly tavern shooting in Wedela township near Carletonville.
17 people including 13 men and four women, were killed when the gunmen opened fire on patrons inside and outside the tavern on Saturday night.
More than a dozen were wounded and taken to hospital.
Police said the suspects were armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols and fled in two vehicles after allegedly robbing patrons of their cellphones.
The motive remains unknown.
Police have opened 17 murder cases, 15 counts of attempted murder and two of malicious damage to property.
