ActionSA, EFF reject Ekurhuleni power-sharing deal

JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA and EFF have firmly rejected a power-sharing deal in the City of Ekurhuleni.

ActionSA president Herman Mashaba described a statement circulated by the city on the new council committee reshuffle as completely fabricated.

He emphasised that despite repeated attempts by Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza to involve ActionSA in the administration, the party will not join what it describes as a failing and corrupt government.

The EFF on Wednesday said it would also be withdrawing from the administration.

Mashaba said ActionSA remains committed to restoring governance, fighting corruption, and improving service delivery.

He urges the public and media to verify all information through official ActionSA communication channels.

In a statement, the EFF said its decision comes after the removal of its three councillors as MMCs in their respective portfolios.

The party said of particular concern was the removal of responsibilities of Water and Sanitation from its councillor and MMC Thembi Msane.

“This irresponsible move seeks to undermine the work of the EFF in maintaining and improving water infrastructure in the city and poses a risk to water services.”
