Alleged triggerman in Witness D murder back in court

JOHANNESBURG - The man accused of murdering whistleblower Marius van der Merwe, also known as Witness D, will be back in court for a bail application.

Matiphandile Sotheni’s bail application was postponed in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court in April.

The former Special Task Force member faces charges of murder attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of ammunition.

They are all linked to Van der Merwe’s killing in December last year.

The state says it will oppose bail.
