ANC councillor shot dead in Durban

DURBAN - An ANC councillor responsible for Ward 17 in eThekwini has been shot dead in Klaarwater on Thursday.

According to KwaZulu-Natal Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, information available suggests the deceased was in his office with several community members when an unknown suspect allegedly attacked him.

"The unknown man posed as someone who needed assistance from the deceased. The deceased reportedly went out to assist the man. The suspect drew a firearm and shot the deceased several times and he was declared dead at the scene." 

Netshiunda said the suspect fled the scene on foot. 

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect. 

"Different police units are combing for clues and pieces of evidence at a crime scene in Klaarwater near Mariannhill where a ward councillor was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon," Netshiunda said.
