JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress is convening a special meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday to finalise its mayoral candidates.
All indications are that the national executive committee meeting will approve the candidates before the end of this week.
The ANC says the party's leadership is expected to use this meeting to conclude the last phase of the candidate selection process for the November local government elections.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s party is on the backfoot with its election programme.
It made a U-turn on Saturday after promising the nation to announce its mayoral candidates. The party chose to rather parade the top three candidates for every municipality.
