Andrea Johnson denies political interference claims

JOHANNESBURG - Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Head Andrea Johnson has denied any political interference in the criminal case against Dumisani Khumalo and other Crime Intelligence officials. 

Johnson appeared before the Madlanga Commission after missing an earlier session due to illness.

She insisted IDAC’s investigations are driven by evidence, not politics and maintains the case against Khumalo followed standard prosecutorial procedures.

"IDAC has a prima facie criminal case against Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo and other officials at Crime Intelligence. That matter was not pursued for any political purpose at the instance of any political actor or to advance any form of political interference within SAPS. 

"The investigation and prosecution have at all material times been dealt with through the ordinary prosecutorial processes applicable within IDEC and the NPA," said.
