PRETORIA - Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) deputy prosecutor Peter Serunye delivered damning testimony about Advocate Andrea Johnson, painting the former IDAC head as being dishonest.
Serunye says he repeatedly raised concerns with Johnson about the merits of the case against senior Crime Intelligence officials.
He told the Madlanga Commission he questioned the evidence, the corruption charges and whether the matter fell within IDAC's mandate.
He said these concerns were communicated to Johnson on several occasions through emails and memorandums.
During questioning by co-commissioner Advocate Sesi Baloyi, Serunye rejected Johnson's earlier evidence that no lawyers in her office had expressed reservations about the case.
He insisted that he had raised the issues more than once, referring to several email exchanges, including correspondence relating to the Lushaba case, which he described as even more problematic.
When asked whether Johnson had been truthful in denying that concerns had been raised, Serunye suggested she may not have recalled his communications.
However, when pressed on whether he had any reason to believe she had not received his emails and memorandums, Serunye was unequivocal, saying she had indeed received them.
