Bakwena expects traffic spike again on Christmas Eve

JOHANNESBURG - The festive rush from Gauteng to the north began early this year.

And the Bakwena highway is already seeing some travellers returning.

The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire expects traffic volumes to increase again on Christmas Eve.

"Each festive scene is different. So this year, because the schools closed on the 5th of December, some started travelling then," said Solomon Kganyago.

"So we can expect a lot to travel on the 24th, going up north again for Christmas and perhaps New Year's Day. On our route, the busiest tall plaza is Pumulani Plaza. So we normally measure traffic volumes with Pumulani Plaza.

"So far, we've recorded over 2,000 vehicles through Pumulani Plaza over the weekend. But tomorrow, we expect to record more than 2,000 across or throughout the afternoon and into the early evening."
