PRETORIA - Outgoing National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shamila Batohi, has dismissed criticism of dragging her feet in prosecuting corruption,
Batohi says delays do not indicate inaction.
"I agree that corruption cases must move more quickly and to that extent, I have not only disappointed the people of South Africa, but I personally feel disappointed that we have not moved those cases," Batohi said
Batohi says the country needs strong crime intelligence and a strong judiciary.
She says prosecution of organised crime takes years and requires a strong justice system.
"It is therefore time that we consciously focus on addressing systemic challenges that affect the entire criminal justice value chain," Bathohi said.

Bathohi emphasised that no part of the criminal justice system succeeds alone.
Advocate Andy Mothibi from the Special Investigating Unit will succeed Batohi.
