Boshielo: Van Der Merwe's killing treasonous

JOHANNESBURG - Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo says the killing of state witnesses and police officers will not be allowed.

She has described the killing of Marius van der Merwe as treasonous.

"We cannot allow this to go on. We are not going to take it lightly. We have to send a strong message saying we can not," she said.

He was ambushed outside his home on Friday and killed in front of his family.

Van der Merwe testified at the Madlanga Commission as Witness D.

Boshielo says it's unfortunate that some media houses revealed Witness D's name soon after he was killed.

She says some of the witnesses were offered protection, but declined.

Boshielo is due to meet the SAPS top leadership this week.

Recent killings will be on the agenda.
