Bronkhorstspruit reservoir cleaning near completion

PRETORIA - The City of Tshwane says preparations for the filtration process at the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Works are 90% complete, following concerns over water contamination.

The plant had been supplying untreated water contaminated with E. coli after sewage spills upstream.

Mayor Nasiphi Moya provided the update following a meeting of the City’s Water Management Committee.

The city has confirmed that cleaning of the largest reservoir has been completed, with the remaining cleaning work expected to be finalised on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Tshwane has suspended tanker-filling operations at the Cullinan hydrant due to water quality concerns.

The metro says it is implementing testing measures for independent water tankers as part of efforts to address the concerns.
