CAPE TOWN - The Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia and other members of the Justice System leadership engaged with the community of Mitchells Plain about high levels of crime on Tuesday.
Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Andries Nel, Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia, Deputy Minister of Police Polly Boshielo, and SAPS National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, met with anti-crime stakeholders.
Gangsterism and crime continue to be a consistent problem in the area.
Members of the Portfolio Committee on Police and the MEC for Police Oversight also attended the engagement.
Cachalia addressed the community, saying communities have been flooded with guns.
The acting minister stated officials are committed to working with communities to combat gang violence and other crime in the Western Cape.
Over 300 people died in gang-related violence in August.
