Cachalia worried Masemola acted too soon

JOHANNESBURG - Acting Police Minister, Professor Firoz Cachalia, has responded to comments made by National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, about the Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal.

He is concerned that Masemola has acted before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has even begun.

Masemola said that 121 dockets have been returned to the unit, confirming allegations that they had been removed.

President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission to probe allegations of corruption in the SAPS, made by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Cachalia says the work of the commission must not be undermined while it investigates what transpired with the Task Team.

He also wants Masemola to submit a report on the Task Team without further delay.
