Calls for more police visibility in Cape Flats

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape MEC Anroux Marais is calling on the national police commissioner to urgently deploy more police officers.

Marais believes that sending the army to confront gang violence in the area is not the solution.

But some community groups say the army should be brought in because the province has failed.

Provincial safety officials say this is not a solution.

Marais says they've been dispatching LEAP officers to help the police in the area.

Meanwhile, the family of an 11-year-old child who survived a gunshot wound to the head is seeking justice.

The shooters in Zaylion Smith's case have not been arrested yet as authorities probe other gun-related killings this week.
