DURBAN – A group of foreign nationals camped outside the Diakonia Centre in the Durban CBD have been ordered to hand over their official documents to Home Affairs officials at 11am.
The group has been sleeping outside the centre for two nights after a clash with local police on Tuesday.
They first gathered at the Durban Central police station seeking protection and shelter but were met with rubber bullets and stun grenades as officers attempted to disperse the crowd.

They claim anti-immigration groups intimidated and chased them out of their homes.
They have also accused the KwaZulu-Natal police of failing to protect them.
Home Affairs officials are expected to conduct an oversight visit on Thursday morning to verify the group’s refugee status.
A representative from the Southern Africa Refugee Organisation Forum said they will be sending a delegation to meet with officials from the United Nations to seek assistance for everyone affected.
