Cape Town has criminals in the crosshairs this December

CAPE TOWN - Cape Town law enforcement bosses say the city's bolstered crime-busting plan is in full swing this festive season.

Cadets from the Safety and Security Directorate are patrolling key areas in and around the metro.

Recent crime stats show this policing precinct is still impacted by high levels of petty crimes, such as pickpocketing, car break-ins, and robberies.

City leaders say officers confiscate around 400 illicit firearms each year. They, however, emphasise that the conviction rates are extremely low.

But Cape Town Public Safety Commissioner Robbie Roberts says law enforcement officials have been deployed at the beaches, shopping malls and on the highways as well as in the Cape Town CBD, one of hotspot of the festive season.
