CAPE TOWN - The Cape Winelands District Municipality in Western Cape is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel as severe flooding continues to disrupt the region.
Thousands of people have been left stranded and authorities warn that conditions dangerous in parts of the province.
The N1 has now reopened in both directions, but heavy delays are expected across the Winelands.
"We are urging people to avoid unnecessary travel," said the municipality's Jo-Anne Otto.
"At night, the tunnel was reopened for dual traffic with a stop and go system, which they will try and maintain during the day, but motorists can expect very heavy delays up to about three hours before being able to go in and out. We'd advise motorists not to use that route."
Mitchell's pass to Cirrus remains closed. The roads between Rawsonville and Worcester via the bottom route are also closed.
