Case against taxi boss Joe 'Ferrari' Sibanyoni postponed

KWAGGAFONTEIN, Mpumalanga - The case against high-profile taxi boss Joe 'Ferrari' Sibanyoni has been postponed to Friday.

Sibanyoni and two others appeared before the Kwaggafontein Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga.

"We know what our client's version is, so we were quite happy," said Sibanyoni's lawyer Shaun Abrahams.

"That wasn't really a fundamental issue. The real issue here was the mere fact that another judicial officer had been appointed to preside over the matter. That is the real issue. That's why the matter was really postponed, for no other reason."

The trio faces charges of extortion after allegedly demanding money from a businessman.

A charge of money laundering has also been added in the case.

"I cannot see where it comes (money laundering charge) from," Abrahams said.

"Particularly with regard to the history of this matter and the relationship that existed between my client and the complainant in this matter."

Sibanyoni also has business interests in mining, construction, and IT.

He's been linked to alleged underworld boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matala.

Meanwhile, speaking to eNCA in court on the sidelines of his court appearance, Sibanyoni says he is now a preacher.

Sibanyoni told eNCA he trusts God, and the case does not bother him.
