CAPE TOWN - Former Police Minister Bheki Cele says his successor, Senzo Mchunu, had no power to disband the Political Killings Task Team.
He told Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee on political interference in the police that Mchunu “jumped the gun” by ordering the unit’s shutdown.
Cele also detailed Mchunu’s alleged ties to attempted-murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, claiming Matlala told him he was asked to fund Mchunu’s ANC presidential ambitions.
Cele is expected to wrap up his testimony on Friday.
