DURBAN - Chaos or good governance in eThekwini: that's the grim reality facing residents of the city after the local goverment elections, according to the Democratic Alliance.
The battle for control of eThekwini is intensifying ahead of the local government elections.
According to the eNCA MarkData poll, the MK Party is set to be the largest party in eThekwini as it is polling at 48% while the DA will be the second-biggest party in council at 25.2%.
The DA's mayoral candidate in eThekwini, Haniff Hoosen, says the MK Party will bring nothing but chaos to the eastern coastal city.
"What you see there in the polls is that on the 5th of November, you're going to wake up either to an MK government, that's going to bring chaos to eThekwini, or you can wake up to a DA government, that's going to bring good governance to Durban," Hoosen said.
"That choice is yours, and you can prevent an MK government, an MK chaos in eThekwini, if you get out and vote for the Democratic Alliance.
"Wherever people have given us a chance, we've built better cities, we've built better towns, we're the experts in local government."
However, Visvin Reddy, an MKP Member of Parliament, hit back at Hoosen.
Reddy said a vote for the DA in eThekwini is a vote for the ANC, as the two parties are currently in coalition nationally and provincially in KwaZulu-Natal.
"Now, 25% is what the graph is showing. They're going to get 25%," Reddy said.
"For him to be the mayor, he needs to get 26% more of the vote. MK, in your polls, is polling us at 48%. and I can tell you, as night follows day, on the 5th of November, MK will have a clear majority in Durban and when we take over the city, you are going to see change at another level.
"The one thing we don't do is we don't ignore the poor. We don't ignore the marginalised."
