Charges loom for Dudula members arrested outside G20 Summit

JOHANNESBURG - Two Operation Dudula members are behind bars after attempting to breach the G20 Summit venue in Johannesburg.

Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowds, saying the force was necessary to restore order as protesters pushed beyond the restricted G20 security zones.

The group says their protest was aimed at highlighting issues around undocumented migrants in the country.

The arrested members now face charges of public violence and assault, while a police officer remains in hospital.

Operation Dudula has vowed to continue its pushback, making the standoff a tense clash between protest and authority.
