DURBAN - A wanted CIT suspect has been shot dead in a gunfight with KwaZulu-Natal police in Maphumulo.
A manhunt is underway for a second suspect who managed to escape arrest.
Two officers were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
The team tracked the two men to a hideout in northern KwaZulu-Natal during an intelligence-driven operation.
Guns, stolen vehicles and a significant amount of explosives were found at the scene.
Police believe this indicates they were preparing for a heist.
A team of police and private security members carried out the operation.
They had just returned from a week-long operation in Gauteng when they responded to the intelligence.
They were in that province following leads on cash-in-transit heists.
