City of Joburg | Residents mull class action over billing crisis

JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg could be facing a class action suit in the near future.

Residents who are unhappy with how the City bills the elderly and indigent are coming together to seek legal recourse.

It’s not just pensioners who want to see action against the city for their billing woes.

One resident owes more than R500,000 in water charges for a house acquired in 2022.

Joburg mayor Dada Morero says a class action is a matter best left to the city’s legal department to resolve.

He acknowledges that queries aren’t always resolved in time.
