JOHANNESBURG – City Power has placed Supply Chain Manager Thabang Mashishi on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of internal and external investigations.
In a statement on Thursday, the state-owned power utility said the step was necessary to "safeguard the investigative process and to ensure that all matters relating to Mashishi are dealt with fairly and without interference".

Mashishi faces allegations of extortion involving former and current contractors.
Marvin Baepi, a general manager for Research and Development, also remains on suspension following a separate case involving similar allegations.
“These actions are part of City Power’s broader and ongoing programme to address wrongdoing, enforce accountability and restore public confidence in the institution,” City Power said in the statement.
