JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg will appear before Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) later this month.
This is over delays in tabling its audited financial statements. The City will appear before the committee on 19 May.
Scopa Chairperson Songezo Zibi said the committee cannot properly assess the metro's finances until the reports are presented before council.
"The Auditor General has not been able to brief us on the state of Johannesburg because the audited financial statements need to be tabled before council."
Zibi said once the statements have been tabled before council, a process of public consultation as well as further accounting to parliament will then take place.
"Council has not considered last year's financial statements yet. As a result, we also not able to see for ourselves what's going on. We've called them to appear before Parliament on the 19th of this month to explain what's going on. Why are they not tabling the audited financial statements?"
