Commission not behind task team arrests, says Madlanga Inquiry

JOHANNESBURG - The Madlanga Commission has clarified that the so-called 'Madlanga Task Team' is not a structure of the Commission.

The Commission says National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola established the Special Investigations Task Team.

Its purpose is to follow up on referrals made in the Commission’s first interim report submitted to President Cyril Ramaphosa in December.

The Commission said media reports suggesting the task team has made arrests could create the impression that Commission Chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga or the Commission itself is responsible for these actions.

It said the task team's name will be changed to avoid further confusion.
